I completed my first degree in Management in Liverpool and very shortly after took a post graduate course in coaching and mentoring. The course was written and designed by leading UK life coach, Fiona Harrold. This qualification led to a research post for a guide to coaching and mentoring for young people.
Upon completion of this project, I was offered employment with a large American entertainment company (ClearChannel, now Live Nation) - managing a small team of people. This gave me the opportunity to put my skills into practice. Whilst I enjoyed this role, I felt strongly about developing my coaching skills so I started running weekend workshops. It was shortly after this that I was inspired to start The Positive Coach in 2005.
The Positive Coach is incredibly rewarding - I've had the pleasure of working with some very unique and special people. People who had the courage to go out and move forward toward their dreams - fulfilling their potential all the way.
In 2007, I was diagnosed with a serious illness and after some major surgery, the condition remained. Even with all my positive thinking and self-coaching, I was still in a dark a place - however, without my positive thinking and self-coaching, I would still be in that dark place. I came to the realization that my health was entirely down to me and was completely my responsibility - which made it my choice, whether I wanted to stay sick or get well. It wasn't down to any of the doctors, or my family or my friends, it was down to me.
Since going through this illness, I have also become increasingly interested in how the physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and intellectual aspects of a person are so entwined. The body and the mind should no longer be considered separate.
It was at this point I decided to focus myself on my own healing using integrated medicine. I began studying the work of Dr David Hamilton and Dr Mark Atkinson. Their books and lectures inspired me to understand more and meeting both them, I felt I was on the right path for me. The concept of integrated medicine is to use a combination of tools such as mindfulness along with self-help, conventional and nutritional medicine.
I am pleased to say that without any conventional medicine or further surgery, I have healed my disease and feel empowered to remain in strong, happy, good health for the rest of my long life. I wanted to learn more about integrated medicine, so I undertook a short nutritional course with Zest4Life, part of the network from leading UK nutritionist Patrick Holford.
Learning about integrated medicine made me want to approach my coaching in the same way so I now apply an integrated coaching style. My style embraces a personalized approach that concentrates on identifying and resolving the issues and obstacles that prevent you from you reaching your full potential. Integrated coaching works in the same way as integrated medicine. I want to honour and address the whole person; body, mind, emotions, soul, environment, lifestyle and community - because all of these influence and contribute to your overall happiness, contentment and satisfaction levels. Integrated coaching takes account of your needs, insights, beliefs, experiences, preferences and life circumstances.
I hope that my website has given you food for thought and if you'd like some help digesting it, please do give me a call or an email. I'm always happy to give free consultations so you have nothing to lose.
